OPEN AUDITIONS: Actors and Actresses Needed for Our Production of OKLAHOMA!

What: Audition for Salerno Theatre's production of OKLAHOMA! directed by Derek Baxter

Where: Carrollwood Cultural Center, located at 4537 Lowell Road, Tampa, FL 33618 (Corner of Lowell and Casey Rds)

The Salerno Theatre Company is pleased to announce open auditions for our 5th Season Finale production of Rodgers and Hammerstein's classic musical OKLAHOMA (touring performances set for April 24 - May 3; and May 22-24; 8pm Fridays, 3pm & 8pm Saturdays, & 3pm Sundays). An additional touring weekend may be added. The director is looking for performers to fill the open roles as described below. Age and gender are flexible.

Classically trained singers, musical theatre performers and ballet or modern dancers (who DO NOT have to sing) are encouraged to audition.

Open character descriptions include:

LAUREY WILLIAMS: Lyric Soprano (middle C# - high A) Aunt Eller’s stubborn and beautiful niece who loves Curly. Very independent. Must be able to at least move well.

ADO ANNIE CARNES: Belt (C – E, opt. F). A slightly promiscuous flirt who cannot say no to men’s advances. Dizzy and gullible. Must be great dancer, and able to tap.

WILL PARKER: Baritone or Tenor (D – F). A first place steer roper who wants to marry Ado Annie. A happy but simple fellow, and not overly bright. Must be great dancer, and able to tap.

ANDREW CARNES: Baritone or Tenor (E – F). Ado Annie’ father. Very protective of her reputation and very much wants to get her married off.

ALI HAKIM: Character Singer (no vocal type). A wily Persian peddler. He has an unusual accent. He doesn’t want to marry Ado Annie.

GERTIE CUMMINGS: Soprano or Mezzo. A flirtatious girl who desperately wants to get married. She has a most distinctive laugh. Must be able to dance well.

Various other speaking roles and soloists to be cast from chorus. 

Auditions are by APPOINTMENT ONLY.  Please contact Associate Artistic Director Elizabeth Hooper via phone (814-312-0142) or email (EHooper@SalernoTheatre.com) to set up an audition time. (Please note: the phone number is NOT a typo. Mrs. Hooper's area code is 814.) Please be prepared to sing 16-32 bars of song in the vein of this musical. Please bring sheet music in your key, as an accompanist will be provided. Pre-recorded music or acappella auditions are strongly discouraged.
